Daltonganj, Nov 13: Daltonganj assembly constituency saw girls and women more enthusiastic about voting today.

Sweety Verma, an MA in English and pretty fond of doing Hindi journalism, who, as she said is a late morning riser, but today she woke up too early and joined the queue at the booth nearest to her house incidentally and cast her vote.

Sweety Verma said, “I want whichever government comes to power it should ensure no paper leak in the examination. It hurts the examinees the most. It taxes the economy of the family too.”

Sweety Verma was in her spick and span civilian clothes.

Palamu SP casts vote in uniform

SP Reeshma Ramesan too cast her vote in uniform.

Speaking to Jharkhand Story correspondent, Reeshma Ramesan said, “I cast my vote at booth number 191 located in the office building of the irrigation department here in Daltonganj.”

Asked if you like any ordinary voter stood in the queue waiting for your turn to come to vote or if your security cops around you paved the way for your jumping the queue, Reeshma Ramesan said, “I stood in the queue like any other voter. I was there in the queue for 15 minutes. I had no intention of jumping the queue. I just waited for my turn to come to show my identity proof and I did when it was asked for by the polling officials.”

Addressing queue and crowd concerns

Town police officer-in-charge Deobrat Poddar had a different tale today. Poddar said, “I went hopping from one booth to another. It was to redress the call of ‘yahan garbari wahan garbari.” The issue used to be simple but it was presented as something most serious.”

“I rushed to one such booth under the order of our SP madam. There it was the issue of disorderly queue only. I went to the voters in the queue and asked them to be in order. It was done accordingly.”

Polling done smoothly

District Election Officer cum Deputy Commissioner Shashi Ranjan said, “Barring one incident of replacement for the ballot unit of the EVM there has been a very successful start of the voting right on the dot at 7 am at all our 1795 booths as Palamu district’s five assembly constituencies have in all 1796 booths.”

The replacement was well within time, Shashi Ranjan reiterated.

Adjusted polling hours for select booths

49 booths will see voting ending by 1 hour in advance that is 7 am to 4 pm. It is under the permission and approval of the ECI.

Shashi Ranjan said, “Out of 49 booths, 35 booths of our Daltonganj assembly constituency falls in Garhwa district where polling will end 1 hour before the slated hour 5 pm under the approval of the ECI.
