Jamshedpur, Nov 25: “War is a great hurdle in the way of development of mankind and it only leaves behind sorrow and devastation. We should refrain from tending to wage war against any country, ” observed Manoj Kumar Mahanta, senior scientist of National Meteorological Laboratory, Jamshedpur while addressing a gathering at Utkal Association in Sakchi on Friday evening.

 The senior scientist said that from the wars only the superpowers like the United States of America and Russia take the benefits by means of promoting the sale of weapons.

He said the world has changed due to technological development the benefits of development should be devoted to benefits to mankind only.

Mahanta was speaking as the chief guest on the occasion of the Utkal Association’s 90th Foundation Day celebration at a function held at the premises of the premier Odiya organisation here.

Pleases to see people keeping Odiya language, culture intact outside Odisha: Behari

 Prominent Odiya writer, Ravindra Kumar Bihari graced the occasion as guest of honour.

Prof Bihari who travelled to the steel city from Odisha expressed his happiness over the kind of bond the people belonging to the Odiya community have succeeded in keeping their mother tongue, culture and tradition intact despite living far away from their home state.

“Odiya language like our culture of  Odisha, also called Kalinga in ancient times, is very rich.  One can get traces of our language and cultural heritage in the neighbouring states of Bengal, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. It is a matter of great pleasure that you are doing your best to keep the Odiya language and culture intact despite living outside Odisha, ” Ravindra Kumar Bihari said addressing the audience.

Members recall 90 years journey

 On this occasion, the Utkal Association’s trustee Advocate Manoranjan Dash gave a short account of the journey this premier Odiya organisation has successfully made during the past long 90 years.

Association’s patron industrialist SK Behera spoke about the developmental work the organisation has embarked upon in Jamshedpur.

Association’s president Dr Sridhar Pradhan, general secretary Tarun Kumar Mohanti and vice-president Badal Bhuyan ensured to see how can the association’s foundation day celebration be a great success.

A cultural program was also organised on the occasion.
