The acting president of the Shiromani Akali Dal’s working committee, Balwinder Singh, has called a meeting of the working committee on November 18 at 12 noon at the party office in Chandigarh.

During this meeting, the resignation submitted by party president Sukhbir Singh Badal will be discussed and a decision will be taken on whether to accept it. The committee will also deliberate on conducting elections for the party president’s position.

This development comes as a major setback for the Akali Dal ahead of by-elections on four assembly seats in Punjab.

On August 30, the Akal Takht declared Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal as a “tankhaiya,” a term used to denote religious misconduct. This decision was related to alleged mistakes committed during his party’s governance from 2007 to 2017.
