New Delhi, Nov 22: BJP National President JP Nadda expressed strong criticism of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent letter to President Droupadi Murmu regarding the violence in Manipur. In a letter addressed to Kharge, Nadda accused the Congress of politicizing the Manipur crisis.

He said that earlier this year, when Prime Minister Narendra Modi was addressing the issue of violence in Manipur, Kharge and his party walked out of the House, disregarding the seriousness of the matter, which he found astonishing.

Nadda also remarked that now, with Kharge writing to the President about Manipur, it is encouraging to see that his party has shown respect for the highest constitutional office and President Droupadi Murmu.

Consequences of failures of Congress govts being seen in Manipur

JP Nadda reminded the Congress of its failures in Manipur and other northeastern states, particularly during the 1990s and the UPA regime. He stated that the consequences of those failures are still visible in Manipur today.

Nadda emphasized that over the past decade, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the northeastern region has witnessed a complete transformation in every sector, including economic development, security, healthcare, education, and access to opportunities. For the first time since independence, the entire northeastern region, including Manipur, is experiencing peace, prosperity, and progress.

Accusing the Congress of attempting to politicize Manipur’s issues, Nadda alleged that the party was responsible for the period of violence and instability in the state during the 1990s.

“I feel compelled to respond to the incorrect, false and politically motivated narrative which your words fail to camouflage. It appears that you as well as your party seem to have conveniently forgotten the complete failure of government machinery and the ill-advised strategies adopted by Congress governments – both at the centre and state – during similar incidents in the early 90s and the UPA era. I bring your party’s infamous neglect of critical local issues to your notice because the repercussions of the Congress’ abject failure are being felt in Manipur even today,” Nadda said in his letter to Kharge.

In 2011, Manipur was under complete internal blockade for 120 days

He further said that in 2011, Manipur faced a complete internal blockade for 120 days. The prices of petrol and LPG were four times higher than in the rest of the country, causing daily losses worth crores. At that time, the Congress government did not even attempt to raise the issue with the central government, while the state administration was involved in thousands of fake encounters.

In contrast, the BJP government took swift action to address the situation following the first incident of violence in Manipur. JP Nadda stated that both the central and state governments worked together to immediately control the violence and ensure the safety of the people, Nadda added.

“I wish to remind you that under Congress rule, Manipur witnessed one of the bloodiest periods in history. In addition to the black period of the 90s when thousands were killed and lakhs displaced due to rampant violence, in 2011 alone Manipur witnessed a complete blockade for more than 120 days. Petrol prices and LPG process were nearly four times higher than the rest of the country and losses of crores were being suffered by the exchequer every day. It was during this time that the Congress government failed to even escalate the issue to appropriate levels at the centre while the State administration engaged in thousands of fake encounters,” Nadda stated.

Congress govt violated Indian security protocol

JP Nadda sharply criticized the Congress for legitimizing the illegal immigration of foreign militants in Manipur and making agreements with them. He accused the Congress government of violating India’s security protocols and entering into deals with foreign militants.

According to Nadda, this is the reason violent militant groups in Manipur and other regions are attempting to disrupt peace.

In his letter’s conclusion, he alleged that the Congress is working with foreign forces to hinder India’s progress. He suggested that this strategy might be part of a deeper conspiracy to obstruct the country’s development, adding that there is a need to understand why and how this is happening.

“What is shocking is how repeated attempts are being made by the Congress party to sensationalise the situation in Manipur. It appears that you have forgotten that not only did your government legitimise the illegal migration of foreign militants to India, but P Chidambaram – the erstwhile Home Minister – had also signed treaties with them! Furthermore, these known militant leaders – who fled their country to avoid arrest were wholeheartedly endorsed and encouraged to carry on their destabilising efforts,” he stated in his letter.
