Jharkhand News: Two MBBS students injured in road accident in Dhanbad

Dhanbad, Dec 3: Two MBBS students from the 2021 batch of Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH), Dhanbad, Kamlesh Kumar and Kanishk, were critically injured in a road accident on the 8-lane road at Memko More under Dhanbad Sadar Police Station on Monday evening.

The incident occurred around 7:45 PM when the students were on their way to make arrangements for the medical college’s ‘Antrangni’ annual function. A car hit their bike from behind.

Injury details

Kamlesh Kumar sustained a head injury and multiple fractures in his left leg, extending from his thigh to his ankle. Kanishk fractured his left leg in the accident. Kamlesh’s guardian, who arrived at the hospital late at night, immediately arranged for him to be referred to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi.

Kamlesh was referred at 3:15 AM on Tuesday. Kamlesh is a resident of Chatra district, while Kanishk hails from Jharia, Dhanbad.

Hospital response and care

Dr DP Bhushan, the Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, who attended to the patients, stated, “Kamlesh’s condition was critical but stable when he was taken to RIMS Ranchi.” Dr Bhushan was with the students until late at night, conducting CT scans and other required diagnostic investigations.

Following the incident, the principal, Dr KK Lal, along with various medical staff members, including Dr UK Ojha, Dr Rajesh Kumar Singh, Dr Vinit Tigga, Dr Ravibhushan, Dr CS Suman, Dr Yash Singh, Dr Piyush Sengar, Dr Sadab, Dr Akash Chandra, and office official Dilip Jha, promptly arrived at the hospital.

Medical actions and special treatment

After the CT scan, Dr Yash Singh and neurosurgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Singh analysed the reports with Dr. DP Bhushan. The students were then shifted to the Critical Care Unit (CCU) from the emergency department.

Dr Bhushan said that since Kamlesh was affected by haemophilia, four bottles of Fresh Frozen Plasma were administered to him.
