Ranchi, Nov. 28:  Social scientist Shubhashish Chakraborty, who grew up in Rajrappa (Ramgarh district), has been invited as a special guest to the UN Impact Summit to be held at the United Nations Headquarters, New York on November 30.

The summit highlights the efforts of outstanding personalities and influencers in the field of society and environment who are actively working on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The event brings together selected talented youth including UN officials, diplomats, ambassadors, entrepreneurs and creatives from around the world.

A fellow of Government of India

Shubhashish has been a fellow of the Government of India. He has been awarded the prestigious Fellowship Award of the Ministry of Culture in the year 2006 and has also received the Mahatma Award.

Lecture at UN headquarters in 2019

Earlier also in 2019, he had given a lecture at the United Nations Headquarters, in New York.

Notably, Shubhashish has worked in senior positions at the Institute of Indian Languages, Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited, Tata Consultancy Services and many prestigious institutions. For the last decade, he has been spending a large amount of his salary on the development of the deprived communities of Jharkhand. He went to remote villages and opened dozens of libraries. He organized a boys and girls cricket tournament in Pandadih village of Sonahatu block, which was selected by Bharat Ratna Sachin Tendulkar as the best story related to the world of sports.

Films on tribal community

Shubhashish, an expert on tribal matters, has also made many films based on the tribal community.  His film ‘Magical Lipi’ is based on the Ho community of Jharkhand, which increased people’s awareness about the script ‘Warang Siti’ of the Ho language. This film is available on YouTube and so far 65 thousand people have watched it.

Film ‘Natok’

His well-known film ‘Natok’ based on Chhau dance has been selected in 15 international festivals and has received 9 awards. His love and dedication towards Jharkhand is commendable.

Work during Corona period

Even during the Corona period, he did many works. He adopted Pandadih village and did many works there like the upliftment of Chhau dance, and medicinal plants.
