New Delhi, Dec 11: Assembly elections are set to take place in Delhi next year, and political parties have already begun their preparations. Amid this, a significant development has emerged from the political corridors. Arvind Kejriwal, the convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has announced that his party will contest the Delhi elections independently, ruling out any alliance with the Congress.

Kejriwal retweeted a post from ANI on his X handle, which cited sources claiming that discussions were in the final stages for an alliance between Congress and AAP for the Delhi elections. According to the post, Congress was likely to be offered 15 seats, 1-2 seats for other members of the INDI Alliance, with the remaining going to AAP.

However, Kejriwal clarified, stating, “Aam Aadmi Party will be fighting this election on its own strength in Delhi. There is no possibility of any alliance with Congress.”

Notably, both Congress and AAP are part of the INDIA alliance, leading to speculation about a joint contest in the upcoming elections. However, Kejriwal’s firm rejection of an alliance with Congress has put an end to such possibilities. This development rules out any chance of the two national parties contesting the elections together.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has so far released two lists of candidates for the assembly elections, naming 11 candidates in the first list and 20 in the second.

Delhi’s assembly elections are expected to take place in early 2025, though the Election Commission has not yet declared the official dates.

Delhi last held its Assembly elections in February 2020 in which the AAP won 62 out of the 70 Assembly seats.
