Bhopal, Dec 26: Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has approved the translocation of 15 tigers from Madhya Pradesh to Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.

The plan involves transferring 12 tigresses and three tigers from the state’s Bandhavgarh, Pench, and Kanha tiger reserves, after central government gives clearance.

Chhattisgarh will receive six tigresses and two tigers, Rajasthan four tigresses, and Odisha one tiger and two tigresses.

The translocation will be conducted under the strict supervision of authorized veterinarians to ensure the safety of the animals, as directed by CM Yadav.

The recipient states will cover all expenses for the relocation process, an official confirmed.

No specific timeline has been set for the translocation of the above mentioned predators.

Madhya Pradesh currently has the highest tiger/tigresses population in India, with 785, as per the 2022 report by the NTCA and Wildlife Institute of India. Karnataka and Uttarakhand follow with 563 and 560 tigers/tigresses, respectively.
