Dhanbad, Dec 1: The eligible teachers of all five medical colleges in the state will get their due promotion soon, said Dr SK Singh, Director of the medical education wing of the Jharkhand health department.
The director’s assurance came a day after The Jharkhand Story carried a report on how these teachers feel cheated after Health Secretary Arun Kumar Singh failed to fulfil his promise.
Process almost done
Dr Singh today said that the process of providing promotion to eligible senior teachers has been almost completed in the department as per the announcement of the Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of Health. The notification in this regard will be issued soon.

Dr SK Singh, who is also the principal of Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) Hazaribagh and attends classes every Tuesday as a teacher, refuted the report that teachers in all five medical colleges feel being cheated following the delay in promotion announced by the ACS Health.
Clarifying the delay in providing promotion to the teachers of medical colleges in the state (announcement by Additional Chief Secretary of Health Arun Kumar Singh 15 months ago September 29, 2022, at Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital Dhanbad), the director of medical education said that the process takes times in a government department. “So, it took time to complete the papers for promotion,” he added.
Research paper publication essential for promotion
He said a few teachers in SNMMCH Dhanbad and MGMMCH Jamshedpur may have grievances, but the teachers of three other medical colleges in Hazaribagh, Dumka and Palamu have nothing to do with promotion.
“In fact, some teachers have been sitting in a place for a long time and they do not want promotion fearing that they would be transferred from the present institution. That is why they did not submit their publication (published research papers),” said the Director of Health.

As per the National Medical Commission (NMC), a teacher must have published research papers in national and international journals to get promotion to associate professor and professor. Some teachers in SNMMCH and MGMMCH are eligible for the promotion but lack publication papers.
In 2018, the then team of the Medical Council of India (Now NMC) had refused to recognize the promotion of some teachers in the then Patliputra Medical College Hospital (Now SNMMCH) Dhanbad as they had not published research papers required as per guidelines.
