Amritsar, Feb 5: A US military aircraft, a C-17, carrying 104 illegal Indian immigrants, landed at Amritsar’s Shri Guru Ramdas Ji International Airport on Wednesday, marking the arrival of the first batch of deportees from the US.

The deportation follows a crackdown by US law enforcement after President Donald Trump’s recent assumption of office, targeting illegal immigrants.

Among the 104 individuals, 79 are male and 25 are female. The deportees come from various states: 30 from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, 33 from Gujarat, three each from Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh, and two from Chandigarh.

Upon arrival, the administration began the process of questioning and verifying the individuals. Arrangements have been made to send them back to their respective places. Notably, none of the deportees had family members present at the airport to receive them.

According to sources, the NIA, police, and Home Ministry are all on high alert, as some of the returnees are reportedly habitual criminals, including several gangsters. According to the police, many of these individuals were subjects of extradition attempts. Their identities will be verified, and further action will be taken accordingly.

The deportation is part of a broader effort by US authorities, with many immigrants from Punjab, who had entered through illegal routes and spent large sums of money, now facing removal from the country.
