THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh resigned on Sunday amid ongoing violence in the northeastern state.

“It has been an honour to serve the people of Manipur,” Singh stated in his resignation letter, which he personally submitted to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan.

He was accompanied by state BJP president A. Sharda, BJP’s Northeast Manipur in-charge Sambit Patra, and at least 19 MLAs.

“I am extremely grateful to the Central government for its timely actions, interventions, developmental work, and implementation of various projects to safeguard the interests of every Manipuri,” Singh wrote in his resignation letter.

His resignation comes just a day after he reaffirmed his government’s commitment to restoring peace in the conflict-hit state.

“The state government has been making every possible effort to restore peace and ensure that people can live together peacefully as before,” he had stated.
