PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Feb 13: Millions of Indians pass through railway stations every day. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)’s Eat Right Station initiative is playing a crucial role in providing access to safe and healthy food at the stations.

Till now, 150 railway stations across the country have been certified as Eat Right Stations.

The “Eat Right Station” certification process involves rigorous audits of food vendors, training of food handlers and adherence to strict hygiene and sanitation protocols.

Tatanagar, an important railway station on the Howrah-Mumbai trunk route which falls under South Eastern Railway’s Chakradharpur division has received the ‘Eat Right Certification’.

A two-member team from Chennai recently visited the station to assess its catering arrangements. The team inspected the station’s restaurants and stalls, while also gathering information on the TDS percentage of railway tap water.

The ‘Eat Right’ initiative primarily focused on the cleanliness of the stalls, adherence to special registration requirements, and the safety measures implemented for the proper storage of catering items.

This initiative benefits both passengers and food vendors at railway stations. By ensuring adherence to food safety and hygiene standards, vendors enhance their credibility, attract a greater number of customers, and, as a result, contribute to the overall improvement of their business performance.
