Ranchi, Feb 15: President Droupadi Murmu, while attending the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of BIT Mesra, highlighted the institution’s remarkable achievements. She acknowledged the rapid advancements in technology, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI) and animation, which have brought significant changes. At the beginning of her address, she expressed that visiting Jharkhand felt like coming home.

Role of Youth in a Developed India

President Murmu emphasized the vital role of young people in shaping a ‘Developed India.’ She noted that the enthusiasm and dedication of the youth will serve as a cornerstone for the nation’s progress. Additionally, she highlighted that women are making significant strides in science, engineering, technology, and mathematics.

Advancements in AI and Machine Learning

Discussing the future of AI and machine learning, the President said these fields are expected to bring transformative changes. She also mentioned that the Government of India is actively working to integrate AI into higher education.

A Message to Innovators and Entrepreneurs

Addressing innovators and entrepreneurs, President Murmu urged them not to overlook the indigenous knowledge systems of traditional communities. She pointed out that many problems do not require complex technical solutions but can be addressed with simple, practical approaches.

The Era of Technology

She described the present time as the “era of technology,” emphasizing the crucial role of information technology. She stressed that technology and the humanities complement each other and praised BIT Mesra for its contributions over the past 70 years. She also acknowledged the institute’s pioneering efforts, such as the establishment of India’s first Space and Rocketry Department in 1964. Speaking about AI, she reiterated its growing importance in shaping the future.

Governor Highlights BIT Mesra’s Legacy

Earlier, Jharkhand Governor Santosh Gangwar praised BIT Mesra as a prestigious institution with a strong legacy in advancing engineering disciplines and programs in India. He highlighted that emerging developments in science and technology are creating new opportunities for young engineers and managers.

Reflecting on the institute’s founding, he called its establishment in 1955 a visionary initiative by B.M. Birla, who foresaw the crucial role of engineering and technology in national development. Since then, BIT Mesra has produced numerous talented students who have brought recognition to the institute and the country on both national and international platforms.

He also noted BIT Mesra’s leadership in innovation and research, making it globally unique. He emphasized how the institution has nurtured students’ critical thinking and equipped them with the skills to tackle life’s challenges. In a rapidly changing world where new technologies and opportunities emerge daily, he stressed the importance of vision and adaptability among the youth.

Contribution to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’

The Governor highlighted BIT Mesra’s significant role in realizing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) vision of the Honorable Prime Minister. He urged faculty members and scholars to actively contribute to this initiative by developing innovative engineering models, equipment, machines, and software that benefit industries and the general public.
