Daltonganj, Dec 3: There will be solar fencing for the four soft release centres of the Cheetals in the Palamu Tiger Reserve.

Solar fencing wards off animals to make any intrusion or trespassing into the soft release centres.

Two enclosures each on north and south

A total of four such enclosures, two each in both the divisions of the tiger reserve, north and south, are to have solar fencing.

The north division’s enclosures are Lokaiyya and Heran Degwa. Here at each of the two enclosures solar fencing will be around 15 hectares each.

Similarly, the south division’s Teno and Jogia Dera enclosures will have solar fencing for 40 hectares each.

At the four enclosures, Cheetals will be brought from the Betla National Park.

For the 40-hectare enclosure, the number of the Cheetals to be housed there will be 80. It’s two Cheetals per 1 hectare.

For the 15-hectare enclosure, it will be 30 Cheetals.

The Cheetals are to be transported in these four enclosures through the BOMA technique.

To be done by December end

Deputy director of South Division of the Palamu Tiger Reserve (PTR) Kumar Ashish said, “İ alongwith my counterpart in the north division are quite hopeful of putting Cheetals here in these four enclosures by the end of December. We may start doing this mid December. Just to be on the safe side I say by December end.”

Prey base essential

Cheetals are in large numbers in the north division of the Palamu Tiger Reserve while it is quite negligible in physical count in the south division of the PTR.

The PTR authorities are working on an equilibrium of the prey base in both the divisions south and north so as not to make carnivores suffer for prey.

Chief conservator of forest and field director of PTR Kumar Ashutosh has said that he and his two deputies are working to have a sound prey base in both the divisions of PTR.

Ashutosh said work is in full swing for the BOMA technique and this year-end month the four soft release centres will have Cheetals there.
