Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board decides to release 37 prisoners serving a life sentence

Ranchi, Feb 17: A meeting of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board was held today at the Chief Minister’s Residential Office at Kanke Road Ranchi under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

In the meeting, a consensus was reached on the release of 37 prisoners serving life sentences in various jails of the state.

In the meeting, along with new cases related to release, the cases of prisoners who were rejected in the previous meetings of the Jharkhand State Sentence Review Board were also reconsidered.

Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Avinash Kumar, Home Secretary Vandana Dadel, DGP Anurag Gupta, Inspector General of Prisons Jharkhand Sudarshan Prasad Mandal, Additional Law Advisor Neeraj Kumar, Probation Officer Chandramouli, AIG Tushar Ranjan Gupta, Jailor Mohd. Naseem and other officers were present in the meeting.

In the meeting, Chief Minister Hemant Soren held a point-wise in-depth discussion with the officials on the proposal to release 103 prisoners serving life sentences in various jails of the state in the light of the recommendation of the State Sentence Review Board.

The file of each prisoner recommended for release by the State Sentence Review Board was seriously considered. The Chief Minister took complete information about the criminal tendency of the prisoners and the opinion given by the courts, Superintendents of Police of the respective districts, Jail Superintendents and Probation Officers.

After considering all the cases proposed for release between Chief Minister Hemant Soren and the officials, the Chief Minister gave his consent to the decision to release a total of 37 prisoners.

Connect the released prisoners with welfare schemes: CM

Chief Minister Hemant Soren directed the officials to verify the social, economic and family background of the released prisoners.

He directed the Inspector General of Prisons Jharkhand to keep a track record of the released prisoners. Along with keeping a track record of the released prisoners by the Superintendents of Police and other officials of the districts, all activities should be continuously monitored.

He directed the officials to ensure that the released prisoners were connected with the welfare schemes run by the government.

He said that to ensure the smooth living of the released prisoners, make arrangements for income generation for them. It is the responsibility of all of us to give a positive direction to the released prisoners by connecting them to the mainstream.
