Dhanbad, Feb 22 – Four devotees from West Bengal were killed, and four others were seriously injured in a road accident on the Kolkata-Delhi National Highway-2 under the Rajganj police station, about 20 km from the Dhanbad district headquarters. The accident occurred late Friday night.
Victims and Injured
Among the deceased were two men, including the driver, and two women. All four died on the spot due to severe injuries. The injured were rushed to Shahid Nirmal Mahto Medical College Hospital (SNMMCH) for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as:

- Sheikh Rajabali (driver)
- Piyali Saha
- Temuli Saha
- Panoba Saha
All were residents of Kamarpukur village in Hooghly district, West Bengal.
How the Accident Happened
Rajganj police station officer-in-charge Alisha Kumari stated that the accident took place at around 1:15 AM.
She explained that eight devotees from Bengal were traveling to Kumbh Prayagraj in a Scorpio SUV when their vehicle crashed into a stationary truck on the roadside. The impact killed four occupants instantly, while the remaining four suffered serious injuries.
Eyewitness Account
An eyewitness reported that the Scorpio was speeding when it crashed into the stationary truck from behind.
With the help of locals, police rescued the injured passengers and rushed them to the hospital.
Tata Nexon Also Involved
Another vehicle, a Tata Nexon, was traveling behind the Scorpio. As the Scorpio collided with the truck, the Tata Nexon driver lost control and crashed into the Scorpio from behind.
Police confirmed that devotees were also traveling in the Tata Nexon, but they did not sustain major injuries.
Second Such Incident in Dhanbad This Week
This is the second road accident involving Bengal’s Kumbh devotees in Dhanbad district.
Earlier, on February 18, more than 18 devotees from East Medinipur district were injured when their bus collided with a stationary truck on NH-2 under the Nirsa police station in Dhanbad.
They were returning after taking a holy dip in the Kumbh Mela.
