THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

New Delhi, Dec 4: The Supreme Court prolonged the interim bail granted to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyender Jain on Monday in a money laundering case until the next scheduled hearing.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi informed the court that the case was partly heard by a two-judge bench consisting of Justices AS Bopanna and Bela M Trivedi, leading to the matter being deferred.

Jain’s advocate urged to adjourn the case

The case was scheduled for hearing on Monday before the bench consisting of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma.

Due to Justice AS Bopanna’s absence, Senior Advocate Singhvi, speaking on behalf of Jain, requested the court to adjourn the case.

Justice Trivedi, however, maintained that they must consider these factors and that the interim order cannot last for too long.

However, Senior Advocate Singhvi emphasized that the interim order cannot be touched since the bench assigned to the case did not convene. He requested the court to schedule the matter for January, citing information that other judges would be available next month.

The matter was adjourned by the court, and Jain’s interim relief was extended until the following hearing date.

Was granted bail on medical grounds

Jain underwent surgery on July 21, and the interim medical-based bail granted to him has been consistently extended.

In the money laundering case, the apex court on May 26 granted Satyendar Jain interim bail for a period of six weeks, subject to a number of restrictions, such as refraining from speaking with the media and not leaving Delhi without authorization.

The Supreme Court had granted Jain the option to select any hospital for his medical treatment. The court explicitly stated that interim bail is sanctioned on medical grounds.

Satyendar Jain has approached the Supreme Court to request bail in cases related to money laundering. He contested the decision of the Delhi High Court, which rejected his bail application in connection with the money laundering charges. Jain’s legal representative informed the Supreme Court that he has experienced a significant weight loss of 35 kg, transforming into a skeletal state as a result of these circumstances.
