THE JHARKHAND STORY DESK

Dehradun, March 6: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday urged for the promotion of round-the-year tourism in Uttarakhand, emphasizing that there should be no off-season for the state’s tourism industry.

Speaking at a rally in Harsil, after offering prayers at Mukhwa, the winter home of Goddess Ganga in Uttarkashi district, Modi highlighted that this approach would significantly boost the state’s economy and generate employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

Modi further encouraged visitors to experience the unique charm of Uttarakhand in the winter, noting that it offers a completely different flavor during the colder months. He emphasized that the government’s vision for continuous tourism would benefit both the economy and the local population, especially in border areas.

The Prime Minister also pointed out efforts to rehabilitate villages evacuated during the 1962 war with China, underscoring the importance of tourism in bringing prosperity to these regions.

He mentioned the recently approved ropeway projects — from Sonprayag to Kedarnath and Govindghat to Hemkund Sahib Ji — which would cut travel time to just 30 minutes.

Appealing to people across the nation, Modi said that while much of India is covered in fog during the winter, Uttarakhand remains bathed in sunlight, making it an ideal destination for travelers. He called for a “360-degree approach to tourism” to further enhance the state’s appeal.

Modi also flagged off a trek and bike rally to promote adventure tourism in the region.
