Imphal, March 22: Justice B.R. Gavai, leading a delegation of Supreme Court judges, visited Manipur on Saturday and appealed to the people to work towards restoring peace and harmony in the conflict-hit state.

He emphasized that the Constitution of India guarantees equal rights to all citizens and urged collective efforts to bring normalcy.

During the visit, Justice Gavai, accompanied by Justices Vikram Nath, M.M. Sundresh, and K.V. Vishwanathan, interacted with internally displaced persons at a relief camp in Churachandpur district.

They also virtually inaugurated a legal services camp, a medical camp, and a legal aid clinic from the Mini Secretariat at Lamka. Manipur High Court Chief Justice D. Krishnakumar and Justice Golmei Gaiphulshilu were also present.

As the executive chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), Justice Gavai announced an additional Rs 2.5 crore in aid for displaced persons, supplementing the Rs 1.5 crore allocated earlier.

He highlighted that 109 medical camps have been established across Manipur to provide essential healthcare services.

Justice Gavai also expressed concern about students who had to drop out of school due to the conflict. He urged educational institutions and the public to facilitate their readmission, ensuring that every student can complete their education.
