Jharkhand News: Clash over eve-teasing in Dhanbad leaves five injured

Dhanbad, April 15: Tension gripped Fularibagh Shiv Mandir Road in Dhanbad on Tuesday morning after a violent clash broke out between two communities over an alleged incident of eve-teasing.

The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Jharia police station, around 9 km from the district headquarters, leaving five people injured.

Jharia Police Station in-charge Shashi Ranjan informed the media that two individuals, Raja Ansari and Aslam Ansari, have been taken into custody following complaints from local residents.

According to local residents, trouble had been brewing for some time. Victims Anil Sharma, Ravi Sharma, and Doma Vishwakarma alleged that two residents of the area, Aslam Ansari and Raja Ansari, had been repeatedly using abusive language and spitting at women and girls passing by the lane. Despite previous complaints to the police, no action was taken, they said.

Despite repeated objections from members of the Hindu community, the accused allegedly continued to harass women and schoolgirls passing through the area. A formal complaint was lodged at the police station three days ago, but no action was reportedly taken.

On Tuesday morning, around 9 am, the situation escalated when Anil Sharma and Ravi Sharma were allegedly attacked with bricks by Aslam and Raja while heading to open their shops. This led to retaliation by family members of the victims, who reportedly targeted the houses of the accused.

Police Intervention and Counter Allegations

Jharia police reached the scene quickly and brought the situation under control. Officer-in-Charge Shashi Ranjan confirmed that two individuals, Raja Ansari and Aslam Ansari, had been taken into custody following complaints by local residents. A heavy police force has since been deployed in the area to maintain peace.

Meanwhile, Nasima Khatoon, a relative of the accused, lodged a counter-allegation, claiming that Ravi Sharma, Doma Vishwakarma, and Shankar Pandit entered their homes and vandalized property, including a TV, CCTV cameras, and other household items.

Those injured in the clash were treated at a nearby private clinic. Police have assured that further investigations are underway, and necessary legal actions will be taken based on the findings.
