New Delhi, April 25: Raja Iqbal Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was elected as the new Mayor of Delhi on Friday, securing a decisive victory with 133 votes.

The election was largely uncontested, as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chose to boycott it, and Congress held a minimal presence in the proceedings.

In his first address after the win, Singh vowed to focus on improving the city’s sanitation system and addressing issues like garbage accumulation and waterlogging. He promised to work tirelessly alongside others to provide essential services to the people of Delhi.

Singh expressed gratitude to the people of Delhi for the opportunity to serve. He outlined plans to clean the streets and drains, ensuring the city is free from waterlogging, and pointed out that no significant development work had been done in the MCD for the past two and a half years and in Delhi for the last decade.
