New Delhi, May 9: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has called on all states and Union Territories (UTs) to strengthen civil defence measures in light of rising security threats and the potential for hostile attacks.

In its communication, the MHA asked states and UTs to grant emergency procurement powers to their Directors of Civil Defence, enabling swift and effective implementation of precautionary measures.

The letter, titled “Augmentation of Civil Defence Measures in States/UTs,” emphasizes the use of local authority funds for emergency actions, prioritizing these measures over other financial obligations.

This request comes following recent missile and drone strikes by Pakistani forces on regions such as Jammu and Jaisalmer, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced civil defence preparedness.

Furthermore, the MHA reminded state governments that Section 11 of the Civil Defence Rules, 1968, empowers them to take all necessary steps to protect people and property and ensure the continuous operation of vital services during hostile attacks.
