Jamshedpur, May 12: A spell of scorching weather has gripped parts of eastern Jharkhand as temperatures continue to soar and a heatwave alert has been issued for the coming days.
According to the latest weather forecast, a hot and humid day is expected across several parts of eastern Jharkhand today, with isolated regions in southern and central Jharkhand likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of up to 40 Kmph, along with lightning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for May 13 and 14 in certain pockets of eastern Jharkhand, urging residents to take necessary precautions against the extreme heat.
An east-west trough running from northeast Bihar to Manipur across sub-Himalayan West Bengal and southeast Assam at about 0.9 Km above mean sea level is also influencing the regional weather pattern.
Temperatures have already crossed oppressive levels in several parts of the state. Godda recorded a maximum temperature exceeding 41°C, while Jamshedpur and Daltonganj saw day temperatures hovering around 41°C on Sunday.
Meteorologists have warned that day temperatures may rise by another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next 72 hours in some parts of the state, intensifying the discomfort caused by the heat.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, and remain alert to weather updates and advisories.
