Ranchi, May 30: The Election Commission has stepped in to investigate serious allegations against Bokaro MLA Shweta Singh, after claims emerged that she may possess two different Permanent Account Numbers (PANs) under her name. The Commission has formally written to the Income Tax Department seeking clarification.
Complaint Points to Two PANs from Different Locations
The controversy erupted after BJP leader Biranchi Narayan submitted a written complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand. According to the complaint, two PAN cards exist in the name of Shweta Singh—one issued in Ramgarh and the other in Gurgaon.
The PAN from Ramgarh reportedly lists ‘Sangram Singh’ as her father’s name. However, Sangram Singh is known to be her husband. The second PAN, from Gurgaon, identifies her father as ‘Dinesh Singh’.

Election Commission Demands Clarity
Following the complaint, the Election Commission has sent a formal query to the Income Tax Department, asking for verification of the facts. The Commission is seeking confirmation on whether both PAN cards are valid and if they are indeed linked to the same individual.

The use of multiple PAN cards is a serious violation under Indian financial and electoral law, as it may be linked to tax evasion or fraudulent asset declarations—both of which carry legal and electoral consequences.
