Ranchi, June 4: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a sharp attack on the ruling JMM-Congress coalition in Jharkhand, condemning what it called “disgraceful” remarks made about senior BJP leader Babulal Marandi.

Jharkhand BJP spokesperson Pratul Shahdeo accused the coalition government of being obsessed with Marandi, alleging that the Chief Minister and his administration have lost sight of their constitutional responsibilities.

Speaking to the media, Shahdeo recalled that Babulal Marandi’s son was martyred in the fight against extremism, yet Marandi never compromised on his principles. “In 2013, when Hemant Soren was Chief Minister, extremists hatched a major conspiracy against Marandi in Shikaripara. Fortunately, it was exposed in time,” he said.

Disrespect to a Martyr’s Father

He criticised the ruling parties for trivialising the serious allegations made by Marandi. “Mocking the concerns of a man whose son laid down his life for the nation is not just insensitive — it’s shameful,” Shahdeo remarked.

He further alleged that the government is using party spokespersons to launch petty attacks instead of addressing the core issues raised.

Conspiracy Allegations Ignored

Shahdeo reiterated that Marandi had accused the government of plotting against him, his family, and close associates at a large scale. “Instead of taking these concerns seriously, the state government is resorting to cheap political tactics,” he said.

“The coalition is so rattled by Marandi’s activism — whether exposing land grabs in Nagri, unearthing major scams, or holding those in power accountable — that they have lost all sense of right and wrong.”

‘Sacrifice vs Opportunism’

Highlighting Marandi’s stature as Jharkhand’s first Chief Minister and his personal sacrifices, Shahdeo said, “No leader from the current ruling alliance can be compared to Babulal ji. He sacrificed his own son in the battle against extremism — something those who climbed to power by selling out movements can never understand.”

Shahdeo concluded by accusing the state government of being morally bankrupt, stating, “Those in power today neither understand the meaning of sacrifice nor governance. They are consumed by ‘Babulal phobia’.”
