PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, June 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rain and thundershowers over various parts of the state over the coming days, indicating the gradual advance of the southwest monsoon.

According to the latest weather bulletin, on June 7, light rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at isolated places, particularly over the eastern and adjoining central regions of the state.

On June 9, similar weather conditions are expected over most parts of the state, excluding the northwestern region.

The rainfall activity is set to increase slightly from June 10 to 12, with light to moderate rain or thundershowers likely at a few places across the state. This pattern is expected to continue during the subsequent two days, suggesting consistent pre-monsoon conditions.

Synoptic Conditions

The monsoon’s northern limit currently extends from 17.0°N/55°E to 30°N/85°E, passing through key locations including Mumbai, Ahilyanagar, Adilabad, Bhawanipatna, Puri, Sandhead Island, Balurghat, and beyond.

A trough in the middle and upper tropospheric westerlies is present roughly along Longitude 83°E to the north of Latitude 20°N, at an altitude of 5.8 km above mean sea level.

Moreover, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Uttar Pradesh and its surrounding regions, extending up to 1.5 Km above mean sea level.

These synoptic features are supporting localized rainfall activity, which is expected to intensify as the monsoon progresses further into the region.
