New Delhi, Dec 11: The export ban on de-oiled rice bran, a significant ingredient in the formulation of cattle and poultry feed, has been extended by the government until March 31 of the following year, as per an official notification.

It was initially banned in July of the current year.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade has announced in a notification that the “Export prohibition of de-oiled rice bran is extended till March 31, 2024”.

Experts assert that one of the main causes of the nation’s rising milk costs is the rising cost of feed and that restricting exports will help make the product more readily available on the home market, hence regulating prices.

Nevertheless, the Solvent Extractors Association of India had earlier requested the government to review its decision to ban exports, stating that such a move would likely have a negligible effect on cattle feed and milk prices.

Estimates indicate that approximately 25% of rice bran extraction is used in cattle feed.
