Dhanbad Dec 11: The voters of the postgraduate (PG) department are set to call shots in the selection of five vice-president posts in the Binod Bihari Mahto Koylanchal University Teachers Association (BBMKUTA) Dhanbad poll scheduled on December 20.

The election would be held for 5 posts of vice-president as president, general secretary, five secretaries and treasurer have already been elected unopposed. For five posts of vice president, six candidates are in the race.

The candidates in the race are Dr Sarmishtha Acharya ( Sindri College Sindri), Dr Avinash Kumar ( RS More College Govindpur), Dr Manohar Majhi ( KB College Bermo), Dr Kirom Rashmi Topno ( PK Roy Memorial College Dhanbad), Dr  Anamika Kujur ( RSP College Jharia ) and Dr   Ram Pravesh Kumar ( Chas College Chas).

On December 7, eight candidates filed nominations for 5 posts of vice-president. However, two of them, Dr DK Singh of Bokaro Steel City College and Dr Sunita Khalkho of  BSK College Maithon withdrew their names on December 8.

The election would be held on December 20 and a total of 173 regular teachers of  13 constituent colleges and postgraduate departments would cast their votes.

As per the voters’ list released by chief election officer  Dr ( retired) SKL Das and coordinator Dr KM Singh, the highest number of voters (51) are from the post-graduate departments followed by PK Roy Memorial College (18), SSLNT Women’s College Dhanbad and Bokaro Steel City College (14 each), BSK College  Maithon, RS More College  Govindpur (12 each), KB College Bermo (11), Sindri College Sindri (10), RSP College Jharia (9) Katras College (7) Degree College Gomia (1).

A senior teacher of the university said that PG department teachers would be a deciding factor in the poll as they are the highest numbers (51).

On the other hand, 25  voters are  1996 batch teachers, 75 voters are 2008 and 60 voters are 2018 batch.  Dr Sharmishtha Acharya   Bangla language teacher) Sindri College Sindri is the lone 2008 batch candidate for the vice-president post. The other five candidates belong to the 2018 batch. Though Sindri College Sindri has only 10 votes she claims to enjoy the support of all.

“Voting would be held neither on batch basis nor college basis albeit voters (teachers) will select on basis of candidate’s face and quality who would work in the interest of teachers,” said Dr BN Singh, former VBU Hazaribagh and BBMKU Teachers Association general secretary.
