New Delhi, June 17: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi’s husband, Robert Vadra, did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday in connection with a money laundering probe involving UK-based arms dealer Sanjay Bhandari.

Sources close to Vadra said he is currently travelling abroad and has sought a new date to join the investigation after his return.

The ED had summoned Vadra for questioning under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

He is accused of aiding the purchase and renovation of a London property—12, Bryanston Square—allegedly funded by Bhandari, a claim Vadra has denied, calling the case politically motivated.

Vadra’s lawyer, Suman Jyoti Khaitan, clarified in a recent virtual press briefing that Vadra has not evaded summons. Khaitan said Vadra had earlier developed flu-like symptoms and took a COVID-19 test as a precaution, offering to participate via video conferencing instead.

Khaitan also noted Vadra’s cooperation in past ED inquiries, including a three-day questioning in April in a separate case related to a 2008 Haryana land deal.

Apart from the London property case, Vadra is also under investigation in a Bikaner land deal in Rajasthan, where both he and his mother have previously been questioned.
