Dhanbad, June 21: Six-year-old Navya Burnbal from Dhanbad clinched a silver medal at the 9th National Open Ranking Roller Skating Championship, currently underway in Kolkata from June 19 to 23.
Representing Jharkhand in the prestigious competition, Navya competed in the girls’ 6 to 8 years category in the 1000-metre event on the second day of the championship. Though she narrowly missed the gold, her impressive performance drew praise from skating experts present at the venue.

Debut National Appearance
A Class II student at De Nobili School (CMRI), Dhanbad, Navya has been training in skating for the past two years under coaches Shiv Kumar Mahto and Abhishek Kumar. This was her first appearance at a national-level competition, making the silver medal even more remarkable.

The 9th National Open Ranking Roller Skating Championship is being organized by the Bengal Skating Association, with over 1,200 participants from across the country vying for top national rankings in various events.
Widespread Recognition for Achievement
Dhanbad District Roller Skating Association president Rajsri Bhushan and secretary Rajnish Kumar congratulated Navya on her achievement, claiming she is the first girl from Jharkhand to win a medal of this stature at a national championship.

Roller Skating Association of Jharkhand president Vikash Singh and secretary Sumit Sharma also lauded Navya’s performance, stating that her success would inspire more children in the state to take up skating and help popularize the sport further.
