Dubai, July 7: Sanjog Gupta, a seasoned media and sports executive, has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the International Cricket Council (ICC), with immediate effect.
His selection follows a months-long global search that drew over 2,500 applicants from 25 countries, according to an official statement from the ICC.
Gupta, who most recently served as CEO of Sports & Live Experiences at JioStar, steps into the role at a time when cricket is aiming to broaden its global reach and deepen fan engagement.

In his response to the appointment, Gupta said he is eager to drive cricket’s evolution and collaborate with ICC Member Boards to strengthen the sport’s foundation worldwide.
The extensive recruitment process began in March and saw applications from a wide range of leaders — from top executives in sports governance to senior figures in the corporate world.
A shortlist of 12 candidates was reviewed by the ICC Nominations Committee, which included deputy chairman Imran Khwaja, ECB chairman Richard Thompson, SLC president Shammi Silva, and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.
The committee unanimously recommended Gupta for the role. His appointment was subsequently approved by ICC chairman Jay Shah and ratified by the full ICC Board.
