Kolkata, July 12: A male student of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta has been arrested for allegedly raping a fellow woman student inside the institute’s boys’ hostel, police confirmed on Saturday.
The arrest followed a complaint filed by the woman at the Haridevpur Police Station.

According to police sources, the woman alleged that she was invited to the hostel for what was described as a counselling session. During the visit, she was offered a drink, which she believes had been spiked with drugs. She lost consciousness shortly after consuming it.

Upon regaining consciousness, the woman said she realised she had been raped. She further alleged that the accused threatened her with serious consequences if she spoke about the incident.
Police detained the accused late Friday night, and he was formally arrested soon after.

The alleged incident occurred on Friday within the boys’ hostel on the IIM-Calcutta campus. An investigation into the matter is currently underway.
