Jharkhand News: DLSA rescues abandoned child from Dhanbad railway station

Dhanbad, July 21: An abandoned minor boy was rescued from Dhanbad railway station on Monday by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in coordination with the Child Helpline.

Following a medical examination at Sadar Hospital, the child was handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for rehabilitation and later shifted to a shelter home in Bokaro.

Sub-Judge and DLSA Secretary Mayank Tushar Topno informed media persons that the child was found wandering alone at the station. Acting promptly, members of the DLSA and Child Helpline team rescued him and facilitated his medical check-up before initiating the rehabilitation process.

District-Wide Rescue Drive for Vulnerable Minors

Topno further stated that, under the directive of DLSA Chairman Virendra Kumar Tiwari (Principal District and Sessions Judge), a special campaign is being conducted across Dhanbad to rescue abandoned and at-risk minors.

Over a dozen such children have already been rescued and shifted to shelter homes for their safety and care.

Father Declines Custody Despite Being Informed

According to CWC Dhanbad Chairman Uttam Mukherjee, the rescued child hails from Balidih in Bokaro district. Despite being contacted, the boy’s father—who works as a rickshaw puller—refused to take custody of his son.

For now, the child has been accommodated at a Bokaro-based shelter home where he is receiving proper medical attention.

DLSA’s Navin Kumar and Child Helpline representative Smita Kumari played a key role in ensuring the child received timely medical care and was safely handed over to the CWC.
