PINAKI MAJUMDAR
Jamshedpur, July 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a series of rainfall warnings for Jharkhand, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the coming days, especially across the southeastern and northeastern regions of the state.
The intensified monsoon activity is attributed to a combination of a well-marked monsoon trough and an upcoming low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
Rainfall & Weather Forecast Highlights
July 22-24:

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over southeastern Jharkhand, with thunderstorms and gusty winds (30–40 km/h) expected in parts of the state.
Eastern districts may also witness heavy spells during this period.
July 25:
Widespread weather activity is forecast with heavy to very heavy rainfall over southeastern and northeastern districts, and moderate to heavy showers across the rest of the state, excluding the northwestern region.

July 26 & 27:
Heavy rainfall is expected to continue at isolated places across entire Jharkhand, sustaining the wet spell through the weekend.
Meteorological Conditions
The monsoon trough at mean sea level was extending from Jammu to the northeast Bay of Bengal via Ranchi and Digha, enhancing the moisture flow into the region.
An upper air cyclonic circulation over south Odisha and its neighbourhood is influencing rainfall distribution across eastern India. This system extends up to 5.8 Km above sea level and is tilted southeastwards with height.
A fresh low-pressure area is expected to form over the north Bay of Bengal around July 24, likely intensifying rainfall in Jharkhand and adjoining states.
Recent Rainfall Observation
Monsoon activity over Jharkhand remained weak in the past 24 hours, with light to moderate rainfall reported at several locations.
However, heavy to very heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places. The highest recorded rainfall was 144.5 mm at Bishnupur in Gumla district.
