Patna, July 25: The Opposition in Bihar, spearheaded by RJD leader Rabri Devi, intensified its demonstration outside the state Assembly on Friday, demanding answers from the BJP-JD(U) government over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

Speaking to the media during the protest, Rabri Devi launched a scathing attack on the ruling alliance, alleging a conspiracy to eliminate RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

“Four attempts have been made on Tejashwi’s life, and his security is in grave danger. The BJP and JD(U) are behind this conspiracy,” she claimed.

She further questioned the voter list exercise, saying, “What about the four crore people who have migrated from Bihar? We have been protesting for five days, and the government remains silent.”

Opposition parties have slammed the SIR process, warning that it could disenfranchise millions, particularly migrant workers and economically weaker citizens who may struggle to furnish the required documents.

However, the Election Commission has defended the revision as a routine, court-monitored exercise, asserting that 99% of eligible voters have already been included.

The protests come months ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, likely to be held in October or November. While the BJP-JD(U)-LJP-led NDA aims to retain power, the INDIA bloc, comprising RJD, Congress, and Left parties, is preparing for a fierce battle to unseat Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
