Jamshedpur, July 26: IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a series of warnings as a depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh moves west-northwestwards, affecting weather conditions across Jharkhand over the next five days.

The depression, which crossed the West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts, lay centred over coastal West Bengal near latitude 21.7°N and longitude 88.8°E.

It is expected to travel across Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha and Jharkhand within the next 24 hours.

Forecast Highlights

July 26: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places over the southern and central parts of Jharkhand. Heavy rainfall is also expected in isolated areas of the northwestern and north-eastern districts. Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely at isolated places.

July 27 & 28: Thunderstorms and lightning with gusty winds may occur at isolated places across the state.

July 29: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places in the south-eastern parts of the state. Heavy rainfall may also occur in southern, central and north-eastern parts, with thunderstorms and gusty winds in isolated areas.

July 30: Heavy rainfall is likely at isolated places across Jharkhand.

Current Conditions

The monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends from Jammu to Kolkata, passing through Patna and Bankura, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation is influencing weather over Jharkhand.

In the past 24 hours, monsoon activity has been active across the state, with light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms at most places.

Heavy rain was recorded in isolated pockets, with Bilba in Simdega district recording the highest rainfall of 94.6 mm.
