PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, July 28: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Jharkhand, forecasting heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity over several parts of the state during the next four days.

According to the forecast, on July 28, heavy rain is likely in the north-eastern and adjoining central parts of the state.

Thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds, with maximum wind speeds of 30–40 km/h, are expected at isolated places across Jharkhand.

For July 29, the department has warned of similar conditions, with heavy rain concentrated in the north-eastern districts.

On July 30-31, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by gusty winds are expected to continue at isolated places over the state.

A well-marked low-pressure area persists over northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring regions.

The associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 Km above mean sea level, tilting south-westwards with height.

This system is expected to move westwards gradually and weaken into a low-pressure area over the next 12 hours.

A trough line runs from this cyclonic circulation to northeast Bangladesh, passing through northeast Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and north Gangetic West Bengal at heights between 0.9 Km and 5.8 Km above mean sea level.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level also passes through Bikaner, Kota, the low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh, Daltonganj, Digha and then southeastwards into the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The monsoon remained active over Jharkhand in the last 24 hours.

Most places in the state received light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms, while heavy rainfall occurred at isolated locations. Jhinkpani in West Singhbhum district recorded the highest rainfall of 74.4 mm.
