London, August 4: India pulled off a dramatic 6-run win over England on the final day of the fifth Test, leveling the five-match series 2-2 in sensational fashion. This nail-biting result now stands as India’s narrowest victory by runs in Test history.
The contest swung like a pendulum from the start. Batting first, India posted 224, while England replied with 247 to take a slender 23-run lead. Siraj and Prasidh Krishna starred with the ball in the first innings, picking up 4/86 and 4/62 respectively.

India roared back in their second innings with 396 runs, powered by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s elegant 118 and Washington Sundar’s brisk 53. Chasing 374, England began the final day at 339/6, needing just 35 runs for victory.
Mohammad Siraj, later named Player of the Match, turned the tide by dismissing Jamie Smith, caught behind by the keeper, and then trapping Jamie Overton lbw in his next over. Siraj finished with a match-defining 5/104, while Prasidh Krishna claimed 4/126, including the crucial wicket of Josh Tongue for a duck.

In a dramatic twist, an injured Chris Woakes, with his right hand strapped, came out to bat left-handed to salvage England’s hopes. But Siraj delivered the knockout blow with a searing yorker to clean up Gus Atkinson, sealing a historic and nerve-wracking triumph for the visitors and capping an unforgettable series.
