Daltonganj, August 9: The aspirations of over 35,000 candidates for 585 fourth-grade posts in Palamu were crushed on Saturday, August 9, the final date for recruitment as set by the Supreme Court, following the state government’s decision to scrap the process.

The government has now the recruitment indefinitely — or until it introduces a new recruitment policy — with no clear timeline for when this will happen.

More than 35,000 applicants had submitted forms, with nearly 90% paying their application fees via Indian Postal Orders and the remaining 10% through bank drafts.

Bank drafts can be refunded if returned to candidates within three months of issuance, provided they are presented to the issuing bank within that period. However, Indian Postal Orders are non-refundable and cannot be encashed by returning them to the post office.

Nodal Officer M. Jawed Hussain explained, “We discussed this matter with DC Sameera S. It was decided that all Indian Postal Orders would be deposited into a government account.”

He added that since Postal Orders cannot be refunded, there is little point in returning them to candidates. Instead, the funds will be retained in the government account. “If, in future, fourth-grade recruitment takes place, and these candidates are still found eligible, they can apply again without having to pay through instruments like Indian Postal Orders,” Hussain assured.
