IIT ISM Dhanbad launches training programme for DGMS surveyors

Dhanbad, Aug 20: IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad, has launched a specialized training programme for surveyors of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) focusing on modern surveying techniques.

The programme, organized by the Department of Mining Engineering in collaboration with the TEXMiN Foundation, covers a wide range of advanced tools and methods, including Total Station Survey, GNSS, Remote Sensing, and GIS applications.

Inaugural Session

The training was inaugurated in the presence of Director (Mines Safety–S&T), DGMS, Saifullah Ansari, who attended as the chief guest.

Other dignitaries included Prof. Dheeraj Kumar, Deputy Director, IIT (ISM); Prof. Keka Ojha, Dean (Continuing Education Programme); and Prof. Bhanwar Singh Choudhary, Head of the Department of Mining Engineering.

Speaking at the event, the dignitaries underscored the importance of integrating cutting-edge surveying technologies into mining operations to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and safety standards across the sector.

Programme Details

The training is being coordinated by Prof. M.S. Alam and co-coordinated by Prof. V.G.K. Villuri from the Department of Mining Engineering. A total of 19 DGMS surveyors, representing the country’s apex mining regulatory body, are participating in the programme.

The course aims to strengthen technical expertise in advanced surveying methods to improve mine safety and monitoring. It is scheduled to run until August 22 at the Institute’s Executive Development Centre.
