Jamshedpur, Aug 21: The Ranchi Meteorological Centre has issued a series of alerts predicting heavy rainfall and thunderstorms across various parts of the state from August 21-26.
On 21st August, heavy downpours are expected over the north-eastern and adjoining central regions, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph.
By 22nd August, the weather system is likely to intensify, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall over north-western districts, while thunderstorms with lightning remain a risk statewide.
The wet spell will continue through the week, with heavy showers projected over the north-central, north-eastern, south-western, south-eastern, and central belts on different days.
The southern districts are forecast to bear the brunt on August 25 and 26.
The low-pressure area that persisted over Chhattisgarh and adjoining east Madhya Pradesh has weakened.
However, an associated cyclonic circulation lingers over southeast Madhya Pradesh, extending up to 4.5 Km above mean sea level and tilting southwestward with height.
Meanwhile, the monsoon trough is active, stretching from Nalia through Vallabh Vidyanagar, Betul, Mandla, Sambalpur, Chandbali and further into the east-central Bay of Bengal.
Met department officials have urged residents to remain cautious of localized flooding, lightning strikes, and gusty winds, particularly in vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, statistics suggest that as of today Jharkhand was experiencing surplus rainfall of 26 per cent.
Against a normal of 711 mm Jharkhand has so far received 894 mm of rain this monsoon.
