New Delhi, August 22: Stray dogs in Delhi and the NCR will be released back into their original localities only after sterilisation and immunisation, the Supreme Court ruled on Friday while modifying its earlier order of August 11.
However, dogs found to be rabid or displaying aggressive behaviour will not be returned and must be kept in separate facilities.
The court also barred public feeding of stray dogs in open areas, directing the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to earmark specific feeding zones in each ward. It further allowed animal lovers to apply to the MCD if they wish to adopt stray dogs.

Extending the ambit of the case beyond Delhi, the bench issued notices to Animal Husbandry Secretaries of all states and Union Territories, seeking their inputs on creating a national policy for managing stray dogs.
It asked its Registry to gather information on all similar cases pending before High Courts, which will now be shifted to the Supreme Court for a unified hearing.
