Jamshedpur, August 26: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds across several parts of Jharkhand over the next week.

According to the IMD, thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) are likely at isolated places across the state on August 25 and 26.

On August 27 and 28, heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places over the south-eastern and north-eastern parts of Jharkhand, along with thunderstorm activity.

On August 30, heavy rainfall may occur in eastern and adjoining central parts of the state, while thunderstorm activity will continue till August 31.

The bulletin further stated that an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest Bay of Bengal off Odisha–West Bengal coasts between 1.5 and 5.8 Km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height.

Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the region within the next 24 hours.

The monsoon trough at mean sea level is currently passing through Bikaner, Jaipur, Agra, Prayagraj, Daltonganj, Jamshedpur, Digha, and extending into the northeast Bay of Bengal.

It is also running between 1.5 and 3.1 Km above mean sea level from south Haryana and northeast Rajasthan to the northwest Bay of Bengal, traversing through south Uttar Pradesh, northeast Madhya Pradesh, north Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and southern Gangetic West Bengal.

Meanwhile, statistics revealed that Jharkhand was facing surplus rainfall of 31 per cent, so far this monsoon.
