Daltonganj, September 2: There is a strong message and meaning of the surrender of as many as 9 top cadres of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) with 12 sophisticated weapons and huge live rounds of fire in Latehar on Monday.
The desertion or migration of the ultras from the outfit to the mainstay of life is not any fluke move of the ultras but their well-thought-out planning to chart out a new course of life, safe and prolonged too.
The Latehar police gave them a believable assurance, which the surrendered ones trusted the police much. This message will go a long way to help and convince more such ultras who are in a state of indecision to come to the police to surrender, taking a cue from the JJMP 9 ultras.
Latehar district police have got a bounty not in terms of man and machine but by becoming a real well-wisher of the Naxals who decide to shun violence or extremism.
These 9 of the JJMP outfit had a few options for having an outlawed life like merging with the rival outfit TSPC (Tirtiay Sammelan Prastuti Committee) or with the erstwhile parent organisation CPI Maoists. But they preferred surrender and laying down of arms and ammunition.

The Jharkhand Story correspondent spoke to Latehar SP Kumar Gaurav, the architect of this bulk surrender to know what drove 9 JJMP ultras to bow down to the law of the land.
Here are the excerpts of the mini interview.
Q: The JJMP went to surrender, leaving any merger with either the TSPC or with the Maoists?
KG: None of these JJMP, TSPC nor Maoist are any ideology-driven. All are levy-driven. And it’s a very plain thing, none of these want others to have a share of the levy. All these are very much possessive of levy. None wants any other to invade it.
Q: Merging with the CPI Maoist could be an option for the JJMP?
KG: The JJMP is a splinter group of the Maoists. From here it has shot off. The Maoists would never allow JJMP to return to it. There are reasons for it. The Maoists are limited and contained. Their base is terribly eroded. Further, there is a bitter rift between the JJMP and the Maoists.
Q: The JJMP could have leaned on the TSPC, another splinter group?
KG: Here too, the doors of the TSPC for the JJMP were shut. TSPC is as buckling under police pressure as that of the Maoists. So where is the room for the JJMP? The JJMP took a wise course. Surrendering with arms and ammunition has no any better substitute.
Q: Are you going to write off the JJMP now?
KG: No. There are still 10 to 20 per cent of remnants left of it. We believe the JJMP needs one more blow.

Q: Blow? Deadly or surrender?
KG: I wish the leftovers of the JJMP go for surrender. I understand the JJMP outfit is in no hurry to have a harakiri of it. Police have both options. Neutralisation in encounters or come to us for surrender. There is a whole lot of beneficial things for them and for their families upon their surrender. They can have a comfortable lease of the second innings of life.
