New Delhi, Sept 5: Forty-five teachers from across India were honoured with the National Teacher Awards on Friday for their outstanding contributions to education.
President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards at the annual ceremony, celebrating educators who have transformed classrooms through innovation, resilience, and commitment to student growth.
The awardees were selected for achievements that ranged from pioneering teaching methods to supporting first-generation learners and enhancing learning outcomes in challenging circumstances. Their work, officials noted, reflects the vital role teachers play in shaping young minds across the country.

Among the recipients was M Devananda Kumar, Faculty of Telugu at Dr Lakireddy Hanimireddy Government Degree College, Mylavaram, Andhra Pradesh. His citation highlighted his creation of thallapatra granthas (palm-leaf manuscripts), production of educational videos for learning platforms, and the recognition he has earned for innovative teaching practices.
Another awardee, Proshanto Kr Saha, Faculty of Psychology at Rajiv Gandhi Central University in Arunachal Pradesh, was honoured for his expertise in forensic psychology and neuropsychology.
His work includes establishing a Neuropsychology Lab, developing intervention training modules, leading major research projects, and providing psychological support to child abuse victims—contributions described as a blend of academic excellence and social impact.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with the award-winning teachers. In a lighter tone, he remarked that while teachers usually give homework to students, he wanted to assign them one instead—to spearhead campaigns encouraging the use of swadeshi products and to contribute to the “Make in India” and “Vocal for Local” initiatives.
