PINAKI MAJUMDAR

Jamshedpur, Sept 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rain and thundershowers over Jharkhand in the coming days.

While a few places are expected to receive rainfall on September 9, the intensity and spread are likely to increase on September 10 and 11, with many areas witnessing showers.

According to  IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre, the monsoon trough at mean sea level currently extends through the centre of a deep depression over Southeast Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan and Kutch, passing through Kota, Orai, Siddhi, Ranchi, Digha and moving eastwards towards the northeast Bay of Bengal.

In addition, an upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the northwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts, between 1.5 Km and 5.8 Km above mean sea level, tilting southwards with height.

Despite weak monsoon activity in recent days, isolated places in Jharkhand recorded light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.

The highest rainfall of 42 mm was recorded during the past 24 hours, while the maximum temperature reached 36.9°C.

As of now, Jharkhand continues to maintain a seasonal rainfall surplus of 21%, giving relief to the state’s agriculture sector even as sporadic dry spells were observed earlier.
