Ranchi, Sept 11: Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee (JPCC) General Secretary Alok Kumar Dubey has strongly objected to the exclusion of Biotechnology from the Jharkhand Eligibility Test (JET) notification, warning that the move threatens the future of thousands of students and researchers in the state.

Dubey said that while several vocational and professional subjects have been accommodated in the JET list, Biotechnology — a crucial part of Life Sciences — has been unfairly left out. “This decision is deeply disappointing and can adversely affect the academic and professional prospects of students,” he said.

Wide Range of Subjects Included, but Biotechnology Missing

In the notification, subjects such as Environmental Science, Management (Business Administration, Marketing, Industrial Relations, Finance, Co-operative Management), Social Work, Mass Communication and Journalism, Museology and Conservation, Home Science, Computer Science and Application, Yoga, and Performing Arts (Dance, Drama, Theatre) have all been included.

“When so many vocational subjects have been given space, excluding Biotechnology cannot be justified in any way,” Dubey emphasised.

Recognised in UGC-NET, Excluded in JET

Dubey pointed out that the JET syllabus is based on the UGC-NET and CSIR-NET pattern, where Biotechnology is categorised under Life Sciences. “Keeping this subject out of JET limits the educational opportunities of thousands of students and researchers. It amounts to shutting the doors on scientific progress in Jharkhand,” he said.

He further stressed that Biotechnology research is vital for agriculture, medicine, and industry, and its exclusion is not in the interest of a state like Jharkhand.

Congress Warns of Protest if Issue Not Resolved

Calling it a matter of students’ futures and the state’s scientific advancement, Dubey urged the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) to amend the notification immediately.

Today, he met JPSC Secretary Sandeep Kumar and submitted a letter to JPSC Chairman and Chief Minister Hemant Soren, demanding Biotechnology’s inclusion in JET. “Our government is sensitive, and I am confident that the Chief Minister will ensure justice for students,” he said, warning that if the demand is ignored, the party will be forced to take to the streets.
