Shillong, Sept 16: In a major political development ahead of a cabinet reshuffle in Meghalaya, eight ministers tendered their resignations on Tuesday, clearing the decks for the induction of new faces into Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma’s council of ministers.
The swearing-in ceremony for the fresh appointees is slated for 5 pm at Raj Bhavan in Shillong.
According to officials, Conrad Sangma, who leads the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, personally submitted the resignations to Governor C. H. Vijayashankar at Raj Bhavan earlier in the day.

Those stepping down include senior leaders Ampareen Lyngdoh, Comingone Ymbon, Rakkam A. Sangma, and Abu Taher Mondal of the NPP; Paul Lyngdoh and Kyrmen Shylla of the UDP; Shakliar Warjri of the HSPDP; and AL Hek of the BJP.
Officials confirmed that their exit was a coordinated move to facilitate the cabinet expansion, with the new line-up expected to reflect a broader power balance within the MDA coalition.
