Daltonganj, September 16: Ravan Dahan and Visarjan are the two most sensitive issues of the coming holy festival, Durga Puja, here in Palamu.

There are trouble-making routes here too in Palamu district, where peace and communal harmony deserve a second chance.
Sensitive Issues Ahead of Durga Puja
Sources said the peace committee meeting, which is an annual feature, requires to be redefined and ‘purged of’ some such faces who openly double-cross for peace and harmony.

Members of Jain Samaj, Christianity, Guru Singh Sabha etc remain conspicuous by their absence most.
Officers speak more in peace committee meetings when they are to be a patient listener to gauge the mood of the people.
Media coverage remains sketchy as such a thana-level meeting, which is held around 4 in the evening, find journalists away from it to meet their news deadline.

Pandal Preparations and Licensing
There were 579 Puja pandals in Palamu district last year, out of which 400 had no licence, nevertheless, these Puja pandals have no dearth of fancy and glory.
Palamu administration prefers the Ravan Dahan, which is held after sunset around 7 or 8 pm, to be free of any immersion of the idols.
Ravan Dahan is held in the Shivajee Maidan, where the entry-exit need to be properly controlled.
Incidentally, Dussehra falls on October 2, which is Gandhi Jayanti and as such sale of chicken, mutton and fish is prohibited.
Dussehra celebrators are in a fix as to how to arrange meat and fish on the day of Dussehra, which is a day of joy and victory over evil.
Ravan Dahan and Visarjan can’t be allowed on the same day or same evening, said administrative sources. Police will be too stretched for the twin duties on the same day.
Again, there is a possibility of the number of Puja pandals going up further by three to four per cent as compared to 579 last year in Palamu district.

Dussehra and Festival Arrangements
Sources said last year there were huge numbers of bonds down. Sources said it’s not going to be any different this time as well.
The then City Commissioner Md Jawed Hussain, and his team had done a good job in keeping the municipal corporation areas free of dirt and filth with street lights around.
Medininagar Municipal Corporation had arranged drinking water and toilet facilities as far as possible.
The Durga Puja pandal organisers are happy to find Md Jawed Hussain again as City Commissioner here this time, albeit in an additional charge as the City Commissioner.
