SUBHASH MISHRA
Deoghar, Sept 16: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar said the white coat of a doctor is not merely an attire but an oath of service to humanity, compassion, and dedication to duty. He was addressing the 6th foundation day celebrations of AIIMS Deoghar on Tuesday.
The Governor described the occasion as more than just an institutional anniversary. “It is a celebration of a journey of service, dedication, and determination that has kindled a new ray of health and hope,” he said.
Pride for Jharkhand and Medical Fraternity
Calling the ceremony not just a degree-awarding event but a pledge of service, the Governor said it was a matter of pride for both students and the entire state of Jharkhand. He highlighted the role of doctors in uplifting healthcare standards and bringing hope to people.

The Governor noted that the AIIMS Deoghar campus, spread over 270 acres, houses a 750-bed super-speciality hospital, advanced diagnostic facilities, research centres, and a highly qualified faculty.

“Not only patients from Jharkhand, but also from Bihar and West Bengal come here in large numbers for treatment,” he said, adding that the reputation of any medical institution rests on the facilities it provides and the trust it earns.

Hospitals as Temples of Compassion
Governor Gangwar underlined the broader responsibility of doctors, stating that their duty extends beyond treating diseases. “A doctor’s kind words, patience, and affection often prove to be the greatest medicine for patients,” he said. He urged all hospitals to function not only as centres of treatment but also as temples of humanity and compassion.
He reiterated that a hospital’s essence lies in instilling hope and faith in patients, and that this humane approach should guide every medical practitioner.
AIIMS Deoghar: A Vision of PM Modi
The Governor said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved that no citizen of the country should be deprived of treatment due to economic or geographical constraints.
Established under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana, AIIMS Deoghar embodies the Prime Minister’s mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, and Sabka Prayas’ in the healthcare sector.
